HILO Yarn – Prototyping Online Course


In this online course, you will use your existing knowledge of the HILO Spinning Machine and Software to develop yarn samples and software settings for fancy yarns such as cable, spiral and bouclé yarns. Our experienced trainer will guide you through the whole process from machine and software adaptations to your first yarn cards with fancy yarns. The aim is to gain more security in the yarn creation but also to reflect on previous experiences with these tools within your specific application fields.

  • The workshop Participation includes working materials (such as 500g wool sliver package, and yarn card templates) and documentation.

Agenda

The online course starts at 10 am and ends at 2 pm (CEST). The participants will receive daily assignments for their individual work in the afternoon (for another 3 hours). 

1st day: HILO Machine and Software Adjustments

  • Presentation of the participants and individual challenges

  • Adjustments and settings for machine functionality

  • Individual troubleshooting and material preparation

2nd day: Plain Spinning

  • Introduction to single yarn construction

  • Calibration of Arduino for single yarns

  • Individual spinning of single yarns 

3rd day: Fancy Yarns

  • Introduction to yarn design constructions (with a focus on cable & spiral)

  • Hands-on exercises with HILO yarn card templates and settings

  • Reflection and presentation of individual yarn cards

Sara is the founder and creator of HILO, she is an expert in textile prototyping in the context of research, industry and education.
