BOI Knit
A Collaboration between HILO Textiles and BOI Knit, 2023
Boi Knit approached us with leftover yarns from their production process, aiming to create something meaningful from what would typically be waste. The process began by unraveling knitted leftovers, sorting the yarn waste by color and manually breaking it down to fiber level through carding. The prepared fibers were then spun into fresh, versatile yarn using the HILO Spinning Machine, transforming production scraps into valuable, dynamic material.
This new yarn became a showpiece in BOI Knit’s exhibition at the EDIT Napoli 2023: a large-scale tapestry where knitting and weaving techniques blend seamlessly. By combining these textile methods, BOI Knit crafted a visually rich, textured piece that tells a story of sustainable design. The tapestry not only explores the possibilities of upcycling but also highlights the value of intentional, resourceful craftsmanship.
Our collaboration with Boi Knit demonstrates how open-source innovation can support responsible, circular design. Reimagining what “waste” can become, this project challenges traditional production models and exemplifies how thoughtful design can make a difference.
